A: I was primarily named Elizabeth after Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, which I still have not got round to reading! As soon as my mum found out she was pregnant, she said my name was Elizabeth and there was no debate over it (and also no boys names considered…) My mum has said she was going through a ‘feminist phase’ while choosing my name and Elizabeth Bennet to her was everything you would want in a strong female – family loyalty but knowing your own mind and not being a servant to men. She also said I was named after Elizabeth Cady Stanton who said: “I would have girls regard themselves not as adjectives but nouns, not mere appendages to qualify somebody else.
